While all your friends search through boxes for warmer jackets, you'll be grabbing your sunglasses to meet your drum group down at the beach.

Electricity 220 volts AC, 50Hz. Two-pin attachment plugs required.

Duty Free If over 18 years, you do not need to pay a duty fee on perfume for personal use, gifts up to CFAF 5,000 and the following amounts of tobacco products: 200 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 250g tobacco. However, importing spirits or alcohol is not duty-free.

Currency The West African CFA Franc (XOF) is divided into 100 centimes.

  • Credit cards machines and ATM use will be very limited, though American Express is the most widely accempted. We eccourage you to bring traveler's cheques that you can cash in Dakar, where your plane will land before we travel down to Abene.

    WeatherThe weather is mostly hot and hubid. Rainy season occurs between May and November, but between December to April you'll find clear skys and dry winds. Our trips are scheduled between December and April.

    Culture French and Wolof are the common languages. We'll soon be providing a Wolof phrase page to help you out, but bringing a small French phrase book would be a good idea. Being a primarily Muslim country, the Senegalese are quite a friendly people, often shaking hands and offering gifts. They dress casually, though they take pride in the clothes they wear, and you should too, so keep your bathing suit at the beach. Senegalese don't drink much alcholol, therefore its supply is very limited. Most of our meals we'll be sharring together, but if you do eat out, check to see if the normal 10% to 15% service charge has been already added to your bill.

    Food Senegalese dishes use chicken, fish, rice or couscous, vegetables and/or groundnut., peanuts, garlic and beef or chicken served with rice or couscous, poulet yassa, chicken grilled with an onion sauce, and tiéboudienne, a fish and sweet potato stew. Coffée and mint tea are popular drinks.
