Experience authentic west african culture with Djembe Kan in the small Senegalese town of Abene. Djembe Kan offers unique Drum and Dance Workshops and eco/cultural tours right in the lush tropical landscape of the Casamance region.

We provide all our Djembe Kan guests with transportation from the airport, food and lodging, so that our guests can experience Abene without hassel.

Drum and Dance Workshops

Abdoulaye Diallo invites you to accompany him on a visit to his native country of Senegal for a two or five week intensive workshop in drumming and dancing taught by leading West African artists.

In this comprehensive drum and dance experience, you will participate in drum and dance sessions six days a week in the morning and afternoon. These classes will focus on traditional West African rhythms and dances and will last about one or two hours.

You'll have the rest of the day free to enjoy our traditional Senegalese cuisine, talk with local residents, or walk the beautiful beaches of Abene.

In addition to workshops, there will be opportunity to visit Abdoulaye's hometown of Ziguinchor and experience everyday family life, traditional ceremonies, and various cultural activities.

Eco/cultural Tours

Djembe Kan will soon offer tours for guests interested in bird watching on visits to pristeene island ecosystems. For more details, please contact Kay at info@djembekan.org.

Where: The Casamance

You will spend the majority of your time in the Casamance region, a tropical paradise at the southern end of Senegal. In the Casamance you will find mangrove forests, rice paddies, kapok trees and beautiful beaches.
